Thank you to everyone who bought an Anthony Bourdain shirt in the store. Thank you to @adamvillacin for contributing artwork and to @cfritolemon and his team for printing them for us in only a couple days. We are happy to send an additional $500 to @thelakitchen and @raicestexas to add to the nearly $15k that @nowserving and their awesome collection of chefs raised. It’s amazing what a community can do when working together to spread love. ❤️ Thanks Michelle and Ken for putting so much work into bringing this together. It was magic ✨
It’s been three weeks since Family Meal, the street food inspired tribute to the late Anthony Bourdain. (The same amount of time we had to plan the event). Thank you to the chefs, restaurants, food & beverage community who answered the rally cry; to the vendors who donated product; to the creative artists for their contributions; and to the dozen of volunteers that showed up to lend us a hand. And to those who came to support the event, it was through your generous efforts that we were able to raise nearly $15k for LA Kitchen and RAICES. 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

This Saturday would have marked Jonathan Gold’s 58th birthday. As a city and community in mourning, landmarks from L.A. City Hall to the Santa Monica ferris wheel will be lit up in gold to celebrate the life of the man who has fed and championed this city like no other. We here, at Chinatown, will be honored to do our part.
Come through Central Plaza this Saturday evening for a screening of City of Gold, the Sundance-celebrated documentary on his life and impact on our city at Central Plaza's food truck alley at 6:15, 8:15 and 10:15. @kogibbq and other old friends of his will be there to honor his memory and Chinatown Summer Nights will be displaying some of @the_thejgold's greatest love letters to our neighborhood.
Sadly, he passed too soon July 21st at the young age of 57 of pancreatic cancer. The legacy of this Pulitzer Prize-winning Los Angeles Times and LA Weekly restaurant critic lives on in his richly written chronicles of our city.
He is survived by his wife, @latimes arts and entertainment editor Laurie Ochoa, and his two children, 23-year-old Isabel and 15-year-old Leon. The Gold-Ochoa family asks that, in lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Gold’s life consider supporting any of these nonprofit organizations: L.A. Regional Food Bank, Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, Heal the Bay or Al Otro Lado. Friends of the Ochoa-Gold family have also created a GoFundMe campaign to assist them with immediate expenses.
